About the Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment hears cases for "non-permitted uses" and variances. They are the entity that grants what's called a use variance. The zoning ordinance establishes specific requirements for a zone which regulates uses for that zone, setbacks, and other regulations specific to a zone/site.
The Raritan Township Board of Adjustment meets on the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the municipal building.

It is with a heavy heart that the Board of Adjustment announces the passing of our beloved Board Stenographer, Jacqueline Klapp. Ms. Klapp worked for the Board of Adjustment for 52 years. We thank her for all the hard work and dedication she provided to us.
At the Board's 2025 Reorganization meeting, a resolution honoring Ms. Klapp was adopted.
We will miss her dearly.
Application Scheduling Announcements:
- The Flemington Family Partnership, LLC application WAS NOT HEARD at the October 2, 2025 meeting. The application will be rescheduled to a future date WITH the need for further notice.
A Guide to Planning Board & Board of Adjustment Meetings
All Board meetings are run by the respective Chairman/Chairwoman. The Board must have a quorum (majority) of its members present – 4 for Board of Adjustment and 4 for Planning Board – in order to have a meeting. The Boards and Board Members have the obligation to follow the Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL) and are compelled to act based on the findings of fact and proofs provided during the course of the public hearing.

No. This could be a violation of the Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL) to do so.
Please note that no members of the Governing Body, Mayor and Township Administrator can provide zoning approval/reverse a zoning denial.
