New Jerseyans May Notice Salty Taste in Tap Water; New Jersey American Water Assures Water Consumption Standards Met

RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Garden State residents may notice a salty taste in their tap water because of the recent use of salt being distributed to melt snow and ice. New Jersey American Water (NJAW) says the water meets the State’s compliance standards despite the slight change in taste.

According to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), the increased concentrations of sodium and chloride in water during winter weather events do not pose a health concern for most residents in comparison to other sources of sodium in an average person’s diet. However, customers with health concerns, and those on a sodium-restricted diet, may want to contact their healthcare provider if they have questions.
