Celebrate Spring with a BioBlitz at Micek Farm Park

RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Raritan Township’s Environmental Commission and Green Team invites residents of all ages to join a Spring BioBlitz at Micek Farm Park, at 86 Johanna Farms Road in Ringoes, Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.

This exciting FREE community science event offers a fun and educational opportunity to explore local wildlife and contribute to real environmental research.

BioBlitz is a focused initiative to explore and document a variety of species inclusive of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms within a designated area and duration. With the help of the iNaturalist app, participants will record observations that contribute to data used by scientists and conservationists around the world!

Volunteers will team up to identify and record as many plant and animal species as possible throughout the park using the iNaturalist app. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a curious beginner, this is a great chance to connect with nature, learn more about the biodiversity in your area, and help support conservation efforts in the township.

“During last fall’s Pollinator BioBlitz, 13 volunteers worked together to make 376 observations of 147 unique species, including trees, birds, and insects,” said Michelle Hatfield, a member of the Environmental Commission.

The upcoming Spring BioBlitz will focus on the seasonal plants and animals emerging in the park as the weather warms. Participants will get a chance to learn more about local species and the role they play in our ecosystems.
