Don’t Trash That Halloween Pumpkin – Recycle It!
RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — If you’re looking to properly dispose of your Halloween pumpkin that was sitting on your front porch, the Raritan Township Environmental Commission and its Green Team announced there are two local places that will recycle, not trash them, for FREE!
Some local farms encourage residents to bring their unpainted, unrotten and non-moldy pumpkins, squash and gourds because they make a nutritious meal for farm animals like pigs and goats. Plus, recycling pumpkins keeps them out of landfills where they decompose and release methane, a climate warming greenhouse gas.
Local farms accepting pumpkins are:
- OneCompostCan, alongside their weekly food waste recycling buckets, at the Stangl Factory Farmers’ Market (50 Stangl Road in Flemington) collecting every Saturday until Thanksgiving from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. For more information, email
