COMMUNITY PLANNER: Hunterdon County Ident-A-Shred Day 04/18/2026; Additional Dates Announced
RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office, Hunterdon County Clerk’s Office and Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners announced that its 2026 Ident-a-Shred program exclusively for county-area residents will begin Saturday, Apr. 18, with three additional days scheduled for later this year.
All four scheduled Ident-a-Shred dates will take place at the Route 12 County Complex, located at 314 State Route 12 in Flemington, N.J. 08822, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or until trucks are full. The County program encourages residents to bring documents sensitive to their identity to be shredded FREE OF CHARGE!
“Ident-A-Shred plays a critical role in helping our residents protect themselves from identity theft, and we thank Sheriff Brown and Clerk Melfi for their continued leadership in providing this valuable service,” Hunterdon County Commissioner Director John E. Lanza said. “I am pleased to share that these important events will continue this year.”
The County also revealed that there will be three additional Shred Days:
- May 30;
- Sept. 19; and
- Oct. 17.
Each Shred Day, participating residents are limited to bringing an equivalent of five (5) banker boxes/file storage boxes (12" X 10" X 15") or 50 pounds (lbs.) per box, a resident.
Accepted items include the following:
- Paper (staples, paper clips, binding clips attached are OKAY!);
- Manila Folders;
- Hanging Folders;
- Bank Statements;
- Medical Records;
- Old Check books;
- Old credit cards;
- Envelopes (including Paycheck Envelopes with windows); and
- Documents that compromise your identity.
Materials that WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED include:
- Magazines/Newspapers;
- Junk Mail;
- Carbon Paper;
- Cardboard;
- Plastic Sheet Protectors;
- Plastic; and
- X-rays.
“By offering Ident-A-Shred, we are giving residents peace of mind while reinforcing our dedication to public safety and consumer protection,” Director Lanza added. “This is a simple but powerful way to help safeguard personal information.”
