ATTENTION: How to File an Odor Complaint

RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Smell something foul? Odor complaints that “impact the enjoyment of life or property” are investigated by the County Board of Health. Follow these steps to report offensive odors in the township:

1. Call the Hunterdon County Health Department at (908) 788-1351 to report the odor;
2. Provide the dispatcher your name, address, and contact information;
3. Remain at home or wherever you reported the odor from until a County Health Inspector arrives;
4. The Inspector will ask you to complete a “Statement of Complaint” form; and
5. If the inspector independently verifies that there is a violation based upon your complaint, you may be asked to appear in court to support your statement of complaint and the investigator’s findings.
