UPDATE #1 (08/06): Micro surfacing will begin on or about Monday, Aug. 18, 2025 on CR-523 (Dvoor Route 12 Circle to Stockton Borough). RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Engineering Division of Hunterdon County is advising residents that road work on County Route 523 is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, Aug. 4.
The County project consists of micro surfacing, an industrial seal coating treatment designed to extend the life of the road. For Raritan Township, County Route 523 is planned to have work done from Dvoor Route 12 Circle to Stockton Borough.
Roads in Clinton, Delaware, and West Amwell Townships, along with Stockton Borough will be affected during the construction period. Preservation will begin on or about Aug. 4, and micro surfacing operations will begin on or about Aug. 18. Additional county roads impacted include:
- County Route 641 – County Route 626 to High Bridge Borough;
- County Route 626 – Overpass to I-78; and
- County Route 633 – Whole Length.
“The County has taken advantage of this low-cost maintenance technique annually since 2021 with good success,” a Hunterdon County spokesperson said in a statement via email. “On all preservation streets, cracks will be sealed, and asphalt will be patched as needed ahead of [the] micro surface process.”
Residents and commuters may experience delays in addition to on-street parking and traffic flow during operations. Drive safely through work zones, follow the directions and posted detours by traffic control personnel, allocate extra travel time and plan to use alternate routes.
