ATTENTION: Department of Public Works Begins Second Leaf Collection 11/05/2025
RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Raritan Township’s Department of Public Works (“DPW”) announced they will make another leaf collection sweep throughout the network of Township roads beginning tentatively Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Leaves are collected annually from October through December. The DPW makes several passes throughout the network of Township roads to gather leaves that have been placed along the roadside edge of residential properties.
The DPW kindly requests residents to assist the Township in its effort to render the best service possible by following these guidelines:
Rules and Guidelines
- Place all leaves for collection at the edge of your property, adjacent to the roadway but not within the roadway;
- The Township will only collect leaves placed in the proper location;
- Any leaves plowed off the roadway during a snow event will not be the responsibility of the DPW to clean up.
- Don’t place leaves closer than ten feet (10’) from any storm sewer inlet or near a silt fence;
- Don’t place leaves in bags;
- Don’t include branches, rocks, debris or any other foreign material in the leaf pile for collection;
- Crews are instructed NOT to collect leaves if any debris is present.
- After collection, please rake any remaining leaves back into the appropriate location at the edge of the property so that they can be picked up in the next round of collection.
- Leaves may also be brought to the DPW Recycling Facility with a valid recycling permit.
Residents are responsible for communicating with their contractors about the above rules and guidelines.
Inquiries about the leaf collection program shall be directed to DPW via email at:
